Condlence to Shantimanyi

The news of the sudden death of Shantimanyi has come as a rude shock.  Never since the death of Susheela in October 2006 was I as shocked as today.  Shantimanyi was special to many of us.  When I spoke to her on phone on the 17th evening little did I know that the events would move so fast.

I recall what I said about her in my Foreword to the book Ramesh Pai – The Man & His Mission: "Vis-à-vis Ramesh, Shanti has always been self-effacing. But without her sharing the enormous burden which Ramesh carried for well over 50
years, the output from him would have been decidedly less and lesser. Her role was particularly significant when Ramesh was the victim of the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. At such times Shanti was what the poet said:

'When pain and anguish wring the brow,
A ministering angel thou!'"
The same book contains the following poem by Deepa:
"Her love
Is pure as a dove
Giving me medicines
With tons of affection
Stitching during her free time
Visiting temples time to time
She knows A to Z of fruits
But don't forget physiotherapy and reiki
Telling me stories and putting me to sleep
You will not know what my grandma means
It is rare to get people as precious as she is to me
If I would exchange her I would think I am crazy!"
